"Dermoscopy enhances the diagnosis of pigmented and other lesions. In specific, the diagnosis of melanoma and other skin cancers is improved beyond what is possible with the naked eye examination. As the first Canadian dermatologist to use a dermoscopy(device) almost 30 years ago, I understand the utility of this device and it has become an essential tool in my daily practice. I believe the DermEngine App and accompanying smartphone dermoscope are setting the standard for patient evaluation when it comes to pigmented lesions. With a universal shortage of physicians, having a system that can quickly and securely triage pigmented lesion cases through the internet, this approach should help to reduce some of the waiting time on our already overtaxed healthcare system.
