DermEngine Mac App Instructions

The DermEngine Mac App is intended to bring features from the DermEngine web platform to a local Mac App when Internet is not available. Syncing features are also available between the DermEngine mobile app and the DermEngine Mac App to help transfer images to a larger screen.


Hardware Recommendations

  • A machine that runs the Mac operating system (i.e.: Mac Mini, Macbook)
  • 2.5GHz dual-core Intent Core i5 processor
  • 20-inch or bigger monitor supporting 1920 by 1080 pixels
  • Wi-Fi wireless networking (802.11n/a/b/g)
  • 8GB of RAM

Software Requirements

  • Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11 Operating System
  • DermEngine mobile app version 2.0 or higher (for dermoscopy online streaming)


Steps for Connecting DermEngine mobile app and DermEngine Mac App

Here are the instructions to sync the DermEngine mobile App and the DermEngine Mac App. Please ensure your devices are on the same WiFi network.

  1. Start by downloading a zip file containing the DermEngine Mac App from here onto your computer
  2. Navigate to the folder the file was saved to and unzip the file.
  3. Start the app by double clicking it. The app name should be "DermEngine" with the DermEngine logo.
  4. Enter your DermEngine credentials from the login screen. If you do not already have an account, a new account can be created on DermEngine at or the DermEngine mobile app.
  5. After logging in, allow time for the Mac App to download your patient data from DermEngine. This can take several minutes depending on the strength of your Internet connection and the number of patients and images under your account. You can also choose to cancel the download and continue. Patient data will download as needed when you are accessing patient information.
  6. Once the download is complete, select the "Settings" button in the top right corner of the app.
  7. On the Settings page, the "Mac App Code" has instructions to navigate to the connections page on the Dr. MoleScope app. Follow these on screen instructions.
  8. After following the on screen instructions and connecting, you should see the apps connected with information about your account.
  9. Once connected, patient information can be synced between the Mac App, DermEngine mobile app and DermEngine web platform.
