by The DermEngine Team on Dec 12, 2023

MetaOptima was one of 35 companies selected to receive funding from the new Healthtech SME Program by Circle Innovation. This program is funded by PacifiCan and supports British Columbia's healthcare sector for developing solutions and technologies.

Circle Innovation's new Healthtech SME Program

The Healthtech SME Program is organized by Circle Innovation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing technological solutions in healthcare and more. They've helped numerous small to medium-sized enterprises manage their growth, provide R&D support, and get through stages of commercialization. Circle Innovation has been vital in bringing groundbreaking solutions to the market. The program was made possible by funding from PacifiCan, which is the Government of Canada's agency of economic development. Together, they help innovative solutions be developed faster for market arrival.

The launch of the program came at the announcement of PacifiCan's new headquarters in Surrey, British Columbia. The announcement of the new space was celebrated, as well as the start of the program and its recipients. About 35 companies will receive funding for over 40 projects to develop, market, and extend new technologies. Four companies were specially invited to meet the Minister, including MetaOptima, to demonstrate the products that PacifiCan's funding helped produce.

We had the pleasure of meeting the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan and his team at the announcement. There, we were able to showcase how our mobile dermatoscope, MoleScope, seamlessly integrates to DermEngine, our intelligent dermatology platform. Together, they allow for the high quality imaging of lesions and artificial-intelligence (AI)-powered analysis as a secondary support to experts in diagnostics. DermEngine supports medical professionals with the latest tools to help manage their practice, clinical workflow, and diagnostic decisions. As a cloud-based software, there are constant additions of new features and helpful tools.

According to Circle Innovation, the $4.7 million program will create "at least 85 highly paid, highly skilled jobs" in BC's healthcare sector while ensuring "technology breakthroughs translate into tangible benefits for patients across our province".
