MetaOptima's Go North Experience

by The DermEngine Team on Nov 9, 2017

On November 3rd, CEO of MetaOptima Maryam Sadeghi attended Google Canada's Go North event for innovative Canadian companies with vision in revolutionary technologies.

Google Canada reached out to Maryam in August requesting to learn more about the company's dermatology software, DermEngine, with a focus on its artificial intelligence-fueled capabilities. After initial review, it was concluded that MetaOptima was an excellent fit for Go North Canada.

At the event, Maryam was accompanied by two employees (Jodi Rai and Karen Meohas) to help her demo the imaging journey, from when a medical professional captures an image with MoleScope II (mobile dermoscope), to its seamless connection with our intelligent dermatology software, DermEngine, and finally its analysis through the feature's clinical decision support tools, such as Visual Search.

"It was incredibly exciting to be a part of the event. They're working to shed light on the latest innovations Canadian businesses have to offer. I was so excited to have an opportunity to speak about how AI is going to benefit the world, especially in healthcare. There is so much potential that we are only just realizing."

After the demos, Maryam took part in a round-table discussion with other innovators in AI, including Prime Minister Trudeau. "It was wonderful getting to talk to Justin about such an important topic that is going to change the lives of so many Canadians. He seemed so excited to hear what we had to say, I can't wait to see the positive impact this is going to have on the industry."

In addition to being a well-funded event by Google, Prime Minister Trudeau's presence at Go North created a large stream of interest both within and outside of the technologies industry. For example, media are suggesting that places in Canada, such as British Columbia are set to become one of the biggest technology superclusters in the world.

“We all recognize the pace of change is accelerating. Change has never been this fast, and yet it will never be this slow again.” -Prime Minister Trudeau

Go North Canada is designed to bring  businesses (from startups to big companies) together to talk about the latest in Canadian technology innovations. This exclusive event was all about recognizing the potential that Canada holds, and gives ambitious businesses the chance to see the latest software and tools while meeting other visionaries.

Why Artificial Intelligence?
One of the many questions asked is, "Why artificial intelligence in dermatology?" The answer is simple: intelligent tools in skin health have the power to provide medical professional with advanced tools that will revolutionize the way they provide consultations through the use of clinical decision support tools and advanced skin analytics software. This in turn streamlines workflows, encourages better organization of crucial patient data, and allows for greater communications between medical professionals and their colleagues as well as with their patients, thus greatly increasing quality of care.
