Maryam Sadeghi: One of B.C.'s Most Influential Women of 2018
Each year BC Business Magazine journeys to find the province's most innovative, hard-working, and impactful women in STEM careers (science, technology, engineering, & mathematics). We are proud to announce that our CEO and Co-Founder, Maryam Sadeghi was announced as BC's Most Influential Woman in Health Tech in 2018! We'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate her on this significant achievement and learn more about her journey to becoming a visionary leader in the field of digital health.
Maryam Sadeghi, the CEO and Co-Founder of MetaOptima Technology, earned her BSc in computer engineering from Tehran’s Iran University of Science and Technology. After moving to Canada, she received her PhD in computing science from SFU while also training at the Skin Care Centre in UBC’s Department of Dermatology and Skin Science.
Understanding the power of data, Maryam recognized the potential for using technology in dermatology. In 2012, she co-founded MetaOptima Technology in Vancouver, Canada, where MoleScope and DermEngine were developed for intelligent skin analytics, imaging, and management.
What Is MoleScope?
MoleScope is a mobile dermatoscope that captures a high-resolution, detailed view of the skin through magnification and cross-polarized lighting. It can be used to provide dermoscopy images for a wide variety of skin conditions such as skin cancer and works seamlessly with DermEngine.
What Is DermEngine?
DermEngine is an intelligent dermatology software for medical experts that focuses on documentation, diagnostic support and dermatology imaging for skin cancer and other conditions while helping physicians manage busy workflows with secure cross-platform access. This dermatology EMR software offers a wide variety of features including teledermoscopy services, total body photography, clinic analytics, and Visual Search (powered by artificial intelligence/AI).
Since its development, MetaOptima has become one of the fastest growing digital health technology companies in Canada, and continues to strive to empower physicians and patients for better care outcomes. In recent news, Maryam was appointed as a MITACS Research Council member, and her company was listed as a “Ready To Rocket” business in the area of digital health in recognition of her company's work.
"I am truly honored to be recognized for my work in digital health, especially when it is all going towards such important causes- like inspiring our next generation of women to have the confidence to follow their passions to bring their new and wonderful ideas to reality. I will always be proud to be a part of that movement."-Maryam Sadeghi
Although her company was only founded in 2012, Maryam is looking forward to the insights and innovations to coming in the following years, and is nothing but excited to share these experiences and opportunities with her MetaOptima team: “I don’t have to convince everyone that I see in my life that I can do it. I just need to come [up] with four or five good people who will share my dream and vision to make a difference.” As a woman of science, Maryam is confident that these are all the numbers you need to jump start your dream.
